Claim a booth or elbow the bar at Fremantle’s venerated temple of fish and chips for this big-hearted celebration of Fremantle’s local music culture. This town has been drumming, strumming and crooning for generations and ‘All in the Family’ brings together some of its most lauded and prodigious musical dynasties to play you through your fish supper.
Since the glory days of the late 70s and the Americas Cup, musicians have arrived and settled in Fremantle, gigging around classic live venues like Mojo’s, Clancy’s and the Norfolk to audiences of stalwart locals. This scene is now in its 2nd and 3rd generations, with kids and grandkids taking on the same stages as their forbears and adding their own fresh layers and style. All in the Family is a roll call of WA’s favourite song writing clans, timeless music and classic yarns from the gigging scene.
The Family Band is a feel-good supergroup spanning two generations. Outstripping the Partridge Family in numbers, this unique collaboration features Jim Fisher and son Tom Fisher, Bill Rogers and his daughters Billie, Anna, Nina and Rosie, with Lucky Oceans and Murray Campbell.
Since fronting the mighty Southern River Band, Cal Kramer joins forces with his musical inspiration, rock’n’roll mama Kelly for a duet years in the making.
WA blues and roots machine Blue Shaddy appears with a bigger than ever reboot : Blue Shaddy and Sons brings together Shads brothers Belly and Jim, Jim’s wife Sandy, their son Keb wailing on the guitar, Belly’s son George pounding the drums and niece Rosie on the keys.
Adam Gare’s brilliant falsetto has serenaded Fremantle audience for years, alongside luminaries like Paul Kelly and the Sensitive New Age Cowpersons. Adam collaborates for the first time with son George Gare, of red hot folk act Jack Davies and the Bush Chooks.
Legendary post-war blues pickin’ Pete Woodward (Ten Cent Shooters) is joined by his equally talented multi-instrumentalist nephew Jesse Woodward.
Rachel Hocking brings her sublime Americana folk to Freo in the form Raccoo, and she is joined specially for this show by her brother Freddie Hocking.
Freo’s Blues Queen DJ Lee Sappho will hit the stage alongside her industry-touted daughter Kester to spin a set of vinyl bangers and set the night off right.
